Why not the beach?

Monday, July 11th, 2011 People 1 Comment

Author Headshots

Paul Gillebaard came to me with an interesting idea for his author photos, shooting at the beach.  He wanted his supportive companion to be present in his shots and he didn’t want anything too traditional.   His dog was always by his side as he endeavored to write his fictional novel.  Paul’s book, “Moon Hoax” is due to be released for pre-order sales early November.  Stay tuned for a link to his website where you can purchase the book.  And now a sneak peak at the jacket cover of the book as well as some of my favorites from our session!

What should your primary dating photo look like?

Thursday, June 30th, 2011 People 1 Comment

Internet Dating Photography

As much as full body and 3/4 shots are important for secondary  images, your online dating headshots are even more important for your primary photo.

Since most primary photos are seen as thumbnails when potential matches are perusing images online, it’s important that the eyes are clearly visible in a close up.

A smile is also critical because it conveys warmth and approachability.  Your primary online dating photo is your only chance to make a good first impression, so be sure to do it with a smile!

Lastly, good lighting will set you apart from your competition so avoid dark photos and harsh shadows hiding your face.

Take a look at the following image, ideal for a primary dating photo, followed by 3/4 and full body images for secondary photos!

Three Online Dating Photo Tips for Women

Monday, June 6th, 2011 People No Comments

Online Dating Photos

1. Keep makeup minimal.  You don’t want your dating headshots to look overproduced or it will give the impression you’re trying too hard.   Consider hiring a professional makeup artist who can give you coverage for camera without making you too glamorous!

2. Show closeups of your face. Resist the urge to hide behind your hair or other people!  Your potential dates want to see what you look like!  If you don’t take great pictures, consider hiring a professional headshot photographer that also specializes in internet dating photography.

3. Show a little skin!  Men are more visual than women and therefore respond to revealing pictures.  In the following images, Kathleen Griffin demonstrates that this can be done tastefully.
